Workplace Wellness Tips for the New Year - Sterling Career Concepts

Workplace Wellness Tips for the New Year Workplace Wellness Tips for the New Year Maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be difficult at times. When you have multiple responsibilities to focus  on throughout the day, your workplace wellness routine tends to fall to the wayside. However, being aware of and maintaining your well being throughout your busy workday can promote productivity, motivation, and high energy levels. Workplace Wellness Tip #1: Practice Office Ergonomics You spend the majority of the week in your office and at your desk, so the way your desk is arranged can have a huge impact on your well being. Start by simply making sure you have an ergonomic desk chair that supports your back and prevents slouching. Next, align your eyes with your monitor so you’re not straining your neck by looking up or down. Additionally, you could consider investing in blue light glasses    to limit the amount of blue light exposure you get from your digital screens and make sure your desk is set up in an efficient way so the items you use most are accessible to you. By practicing these few steps daily, you’re already correcting your posture, eyesight and efficiency, which makes you more engaged, comfortable and productive in the long run. Workplace Wellness Tip #2:  Move Around Desk jobs can hinder your wellness over time because they can lead to sedentary lifestyles. A sedentary lifestyle involves limited movement or physical activity during the day and leads to weight gain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease, to name a few. You can avoid falling victim to the health risks associated with sedentary lifestyles by moving around a little more throughout your workday. Start by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, going for a walk at lunch and stretching or exercising at your desk. You should also consider heading to the gym before or after work as it’s suggested by the Mayo Clinic that you get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of intense aerobic activity a week. By implementing more movement into your daily routine, you can lose weight and avoid disease, which can make you more energized and positive. Workplace Wellness Tip #3: Keep Your Workspace Clean Take the last five minutes of each day to straighten up and disinfect your desk. You spend a lot of your time at your desk so its organization and hygiene are important to your productivity. Employees typically don’t think about how much bacteria the items on their desks can carry, especially after cold and flu season when some of their coworkers may have been sick, which is why it’s important to be hygienic and maintain your workstation at all times. By implementing a few new tasks such as these into your everyday routine, you can improve your overall well being while at work. It may take some time to figure out your new routine but, once you do, you will feel more balanced and motivated in and outside of the office.
